What Is Pilates? And What Can It Do For You?

Pilates is a method of body conditioning invented by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s. The method can be described in three words: stretch, strength and control.

It involves movements on specialized apparatus, designed to strengthen, balance, stretch and align the body. This method of physical and mental exercise focuses on strengthening the abdominal core, also known as the “powerhouse.”

The six principles of Pilates are concentration, control, center, flow, precision, and breathing.


Like Joseph Pilates, I prefer not to teach group classes. Teaching in an intimate private setting allows me to concentrate 100% of my attention on the client in front of me and his or her personal challenges and goals.
